Choose what personal information to share
Make deliberate choices about photos, contact details and conversations.
Share gradually
A first conversation does not require your full name, workplace, home address or daily schedule. Think about what someone needs to know for the stage you are at. You can continue a conversation without immediately moving to another service or sharing a personal phone number.
Respect other people’s information
Ask before sharing a screenshot, photo or identifying detail from a private exchange. Agreement to send something to you is not agreement to have it forwarded. The same applies to information about partners or friends mentioned in a conversation.
Review your own choices
Before uploading a photo, check whether its background reveals details you would rather keep private. Review the settings and account options available to you, and avoid promising complete anonymity to yourself or anyone else. Once information is shared, you may not be able to control every copy.
